At the end of one day, there was a pit dug here. That night, we heard shots. The next morning, the pit was filled in. We knew what had happened.

Notes: A personal note from the webmaster: In high school, almost 50 years ago, my history class was assigned Jean-Francois Steiner's book, Treblinka. At the time, I had no idea that my ancestors had almost certainly been murdered in Wysokie or at Treblinka. Perhaps they were buried at this spot. None of this history was ever mentioned, beyond an occasional formulaic utterance: They are all gone. |
