The Burial Pit Near the Synagogue
The Soviet report: The mass graves of the fallen are near the synagogue at a distance of several tens of meters... This description matches what the webmaster saw in Vysokoye in 2007:

An old lady of the town guided us to a spot near the synagogue ruin:

the old lady said,
At the end of one day, there was a pit dug here. That night, we heard shots. The next morning, the pit was filled in. We knew what had happened.
Notes: A personal note from the webmaster: In high school, almost 50 years ago, my history class was assigned Jean-Francois Steiner's book, Treblinka. At the time, I had no idea that my ancestors had almost certainly been murdered in Wysokie or at Treblinka. Perhaps they were buried at this spot. None of this history was ever mentioned, beyond an occasional formulaic utterance: They are all gone.
