His signature appears in bold letters in clipping (1) above: “Avram Tzvi Hirsh Sagal, Dayan and Mo-re Tzedek [or Posek] residing in Visoko D'Lita.”

In this article, not shown here, R' Sagal describes his disagreement with a Rabbi Yaakov Reifmanen about some legal issues. The body of the article is printed in Rashi script, traditionally used for rabbinic commentary.

A later article by R' Sagal, on another topic, this one in Hamelitz (No. 182, 12 August 1894), tells us that he had by then moved on to the town of Kleshtzel.

The first two lines in this concluding snippet show the distinctive semi-cursive Rashi script, followed by a signature line in a regular Hebrew font.

Translator's notes: Posek: also, Mo're Tzedek (a teacher of justice), are terms in Jewish law for decider—a legal scholar who decides the Halakha in cases of law in cases in which the opinions of legal authorities are inconclusive or in which no halakhic precedent exists. Dayan: a judge in a Jewish Rabbinical court. Kleshtzel: this town can not be readily identified.
