Jewish families bolted their doors and windows. We remained in the dark and mother would tell us stories, some she remembered, some she made up. And she would sing songs in a low voice, over and over again. She had a good voice and loved to sing.
A few of the songs I still remember were Oifen Priptshik Brent a Fayerl, Amol is Geven a Maise, and a very humorous one: Geyen mir Shpaziren.
