A Stay in Pruzhany
In the midst of the war, Dorothy went to stay with her Aunt Esther and her husband Tolle, in Pruzany, about 30 miles distant. Dorothy describes the household she found and its members. Dorothy was homesick.

Dororthy found her household duties in Pruzhany distasteful, but realized that returning to Wysokie would place more burden on her struggling mother. So she remained.

At least one unique pleasure compensated: for example, Dorothy saw her first moving picture in Pruzhany.

For a brief time, the prospect of emigration to America seemed possible for Dorothy, her sister, and their mother. But their hopes were quickly dashed. Then Dorothy fell ill with the Spanish Influenza.
