To America?
During my stay in Pruzhany with Esther and Tolle, I received word from my mother to have my picture taken for our passport.

News was then circulating that there was a project of the Germans to have the wives and children transported from Poland to their husbands and parents in America.

Father must have gotten wind of this for we received some money through a bank in Berlin. We were to be shipped by way of the port of Danzig (Gdansk). Mother felt encouraged and all of us thought that our suffering was at an end.

But this pleasure did not last long. Just then, it was 1917, America entered the war against Germany and the project collapsed.
